A Spiritual Animation Series

Zizwe and the Mystics

Zizwe and the Mystics is an africa-based series with young indiginous girls from Zulu, Aboriginal, Mayan and Celtic backgrounds. This animated series is designed to hook trendy young people through the vivid, sensational experiences of our heroic characters and their outer-worldly, often menacing adventures.

Through their innate, ancestral wisdom, dazzling kaleidoscope of hair-raising escapades is all underpinned by the inventive music created by the all-girl band, Zizwe and the Mystics. The series promises to be a spiraling whirlwind that will engage the now generation; spoiled for choice when it comes to entertainment.

Zizwe and the Mystics band members

Zizwe, the central character, is to all intents and purposes a superhero. She is fearless, tackling both terrestrial and supernatural evils with calculated calm and mystical prowess. She is valiantly supported by her fellow Zizwe and the Mystics band members, the Aboriginal Ras, the Irish Drui and the Mexican Maya, all budding mystics, super talented musicians and superhuman heroes in their own right.

There is nothing ordinary about these glorious girls, they can shape shift; they can materialize in a colourful flash, they can fly impossibly high and dangerously low, they can summon mystical, ancestral powers in an instant.

They can and do use these powers as weapons. They are invincible, yet as real and relatable as young girls can be, when not called upon to vanquish and transform the terrors and challenges that confront them. Each one of the intrepid foursome is guided intuitively by her own cultural ancestors but, more practically, it is Zizwe’s ancient grandmother, a faith healer and legendary wise woman, Gogo Nomandala who is the facilitator of each adventure.

Series Premise

Gogo sends them on their way sending them on their way from the great Baobab tree which, as legend has it, the Gods threw down to earth. It landed upside down, hence it is known as the ‘upside down tree’. It is also alive and magical. It can shimmer and shake; it can spark and vibrate; it can rock and roll; it can sway to ancient rhythms; it can produce mysterious creatures from its midst. It is under this enchanted tree that Zizwe sits at the feet of her wondrous Gogo Nomandala, firelight dancing on their faces, and age-old wisdom pouring from Gogo’s lips. Eons ago, before anyone can remember, the wise women of the world, guided by their mythical goddesses, united under the same Baobab tree and came up with a strategy to keep their infinite wisdom and ancient mythology alive; to be passed down from generation to generation. Each one would select a granddaughter with the ‘gift’ and imbue their spirits with ancient intelligence, thus giving them the invincible power to do their duties for the good of the world. This tradition is centuries old, but never more relevant than the present where the world pulsates under the constantly shifting influences of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

It is also under the Baobab that our story begins. As was their habit, Gogo and Zizwe are sharing legends and wisdom at the foot of the great tree, when they feel its roots vibrating and see its branches sparking; a sure sign that an extraordinary phenomenon is about to take place. And it does.

Expect the Unexpected

To Zizwe’s amazement, a jaguar leaps out of the tree and shape shifts into Mexican Maya who lifts her flute to her mouth in greeting. A fairy flits over the top of the tree and lands on Gogo’s shoulder. Gogo places her on the ground where she spins wildly, transforming into the rock guitarist, Irish Drui. No sooner have Zizwe and Maya got over their shock when Drui’s leprechaun, McGreeni, tumbles out of the branches and performs a little jig by way of greeting. A dream bubble lights up the whole tree, from the center of which emerges Aboriginal Ras complete with her didgeridoo. Gogo Nomandala is the only one of the groups who is not taken by surprise, being well prepared for this out of the ordinary encounter. The three mystic girls have all crossed seas and lands to join forces with Zizwe to conquer the evil that pervades the world. Each one of them plays a particular instrument, not one related to the other, yet immediately, they strike up rapport and riff into their signature song. Thus, the disparate, fabulous band “Zizwe and the Mystics” is born and their unique sounds will carry us along their rollercoaster of adventures.

A surprise element dangles in on the scene in the form of Gogo’s old ally, Anansi, the famous trickster spider of North Africa and the Caribbean, who will play an integral role in the Adventures of Zizwe and the Mystics.

What sets this series apart on the world stage is that the characters all bring their own ancient wisdom to bear, using their, inherited supernatural powers to form a combined force to overcome the evils of the world.  They go through high-flying, low-dipping, terrifying experiences that keep the viewer mesmerised
